New Funding Boost From April 2024

Abbeycare welcomes the Government announcement of an additional £267 million for alcohol and drug treatment in England, with effect from April 2024.

We further welcome that there is an increased emphasis on accessibility to a variety of treatment options.

Accessibility Of Treatment

We would however like to see a greater emphasis placed on the accessibility of residential rehabilitation following a continued reduction in placements in many areas over recent years.

There remains varied access to supervised detoxification and residential rehabilitation services resulting in a postcode lottery approach.

This remains, despite both NICE guidelines and the Governments ten-year strategy “From Harm To Hope”, published in December 2021, which recommend that residential treatment should be seen as an important treatment option which should be readily available across the country.

Following this announcement on additional funding, we call for increased efforts to ensure that budget targets are met across the country to improve accessibility to residential detoxification and rehabilitation services which will in turn change lives and save lives.
