Programme

At Abbeycare we offer a full therapeutic programme. The therapeutic treatment approach is informed by best practice and statistically proven research. This approach includes elements of the main therapeutic techniques such as cognitive behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing and the 12 step model.

Counselling

We provide an individual counselling service from a member of the British Assosciation for Counselling and Psychotherapy. Client's have the opportunity to meet with our counselor three times per week. It is our experience that many people entering treatment are often in distress or depressed through their drinking and own personal difficulties. If desired the client has the opportunity to address previously unresolved issues i.e. bereavement, separation, trauma etc. Our counselor provides an environment in which there is a warm, safe and confidential setting to therapeutically explore issues causing client's pain or concern.

Psychotherapy

We provide two group sessions per week with our qualified psycho therapist. He specializes in cognitive behavioural therapy, stress management, conditioning, coping and social skills training.

Spirituality Presentations

Our spirituality presentations encourage and empower clients to refocus, realign and reframe life. They encourage and promote self awareness and discipline, the ability to be vision and value led, promote diversity, compassion, humility and gratitude.

Groupwork

Groupwork is an important aspect of the recovery process. It is an opportunity for clients to increase their awareness and understanding of their alcoholism and an opportunity to identify triggers and new coping skills. All groupwork material is underpinned by cognitive behavioural and rational emotive behavioural theory. Group sessions are facilitated by staff trained in COSCA counselling skills.

Alternative Therapies

During your stay at Abbeycare you will receive alternative treatments in our fully equipped treatment room, from our fully qualified therapist, designed to heal your body and mind. Therapies available include body massage, Indian head massage, hot stone massage, Swedish massage, reflexology and reiki.

Meditation

Meditation can be a powerful tool in relapse prevention. It can provide a healthy alternative to addictive behaviours. People also report that meditation leads to new insights about the source of their cravings and helps dissolve them. Each day begins with mindfulness meditation, mindfulness is, experiencing every moment fully. When we try to do this, we quickly discover the way the mind interferes with this awareness, becoming attached to thoughts often worries, about the future or regrets of the past. Repeatedly letting go of these thoughts and returning to the present moment, allows us to develop a more conscious and fulfilling way of being.

Aftercare Group

Every Monday evening we provide an aftercare group for ex clients to attend. This enables clients who have recently returned home to get together to share their experiences through the transition period and to support each other as they continue in their recovery. Current clients attend the group, it prepares them for when they return home and they also find it very encouraging to see the progress of others who have accessed the service before them.

Alcoholics Anonymous

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others recover from alcoholism. Clients can be accompanied to local AA groups on Friday and Sunday evenings, should they wish to attend. Many clients use the support of AA groups to build a new support network as part of their aftercare plan.

Client Forum

Our client forum takes place every Wednesday afternoon. This is an opportunity for clients to come together to discuss with staff issues such as the programme, the development of the service, menu planning etc. We encourage all client's to participate, after all it's your service.
