Referral & Admission Process
Referral
Referral can be made by anyone, including the client, by phone, via the website, letter, or in person. Referral details are logged and an information pack and application form is sent out within 24 hours.
On application, if the client meets the main criteria for residency, and there is a place available, we can then organise a date for admission. If it is decided that the service cannot meet any particular needs of the client , they will be referred to another more suitable service.
If there is not an immediate vacancy, then an estimated date for admission will be given and clients will be placed on the waiting list. Staff will continue to follow-up contact with the client to maintain motivation until they can be offered a place.
Emergency admissions can be arranged if necessary. This can be done by a fast-track assessment by phone followed by final application and assessment on arrival.
Admission
- New arrivals will be seen and welcomed by duty staff.
- Admission assessment completed and signed.
- Medication requirements will be discussed.
- Written agreement and consent forms are understood and signed.
- Client's belongings may be searched.
- Valuables may be handed in for safe keeping, if required.
- A staff member will be allocated to assist with settling in.
- If clients are incapable of following the procedure due to intoxication, this will be attended to within 48 hours of admission.
Conditions of Residence
The client must be over 22 years of age and must be looking towards becoming abstinent from alcohol.
Whilst the main criteria for residency is that an applicant is alcohol dependent at the point of application, we recognise that there are other categories of difficulties, i.e., offences of a sexual nature, hard drug dependency or extreme violence, which we cannot accommodate.
As a condition of residence, all clients must accept and comply with the main rules of the house.
- No alcohol on or off the premises.
- No drugs other than prescribed.
- No violence or threats of violence.
If a client contravenes any of these rules, it may result in their automatic discharge from Abbeycare Foundation.
