The Hospitality Team at Abbeycare

David Mason (Chef)
I gained my Catering qualifications whilst serving 14 years in the Royal Air Force. When I left the RAF I joined a commercial catering company as Manager. I soon realised that I missed the kitchen environment. Here at the Abbeycare Foundation I plan meals to suit the clients’ preferences and nutritional needs, as stipulated by the dietician. Clients initially, in their vulnerable state, may not feel the need for food, however as their health improves they gain more of an appetite. My involvement is therefore paramount in supplying their nutritional needs. My satisfaction is gained from the clients, once again appreciating the value and enjoyment of my meals.

Richard Moreland
I’m the Handy Man and come as a volunteer. I am a retired electrical engineer and a very grateful ex client. I come to help other people, but firstly to help myself and maintain my sobriety. I tried recovering on my own and it didn’t work, so by coming and giving something back, I help myself.
I am a keen gardener and do a lot of DIY, jobs I couldn’t do when I was drinking – there are lots to do. I look after my granddaughter, 4 days a week and she is the light of my life. I would never have seen her had I still been drinking.
